Wentworth Point is a new waterfront area 13 kilometers west of Sydney's city center. This modern suburb sits next to Homebush Bay on the Parramatta River and is part of the City of Parramatta.
The area used to be part of Lidcombe until 2009 when it became its own suburb. Now over 14,000 people live here in tall apartment buildings, making it one of Sydney's busiest areas.
Aboriginal people called the Wann-gal lived in Wentworth Point for thousands of years before European settlers arrived. In 1810, D'Arcy Wentworth bought land here and called it "Home Bush" where he kept horses.
From the 1900s, many factories were built in the suburb making things like wood products and boats. In 2013, the government decided to turn the old factory areas into new homes and shops for people to live.
Marina Square Shopping Centre opened in 2018 with over 40 shops, a big Coles supermarket, and lots of restaurants. The area sits right on the water with beautiful river views.
The nearby Sydney Olympic Park has great entertainment and sports venues. People can catch ferries to the city center while enjoying the water views and modern apartment living.
Wentworth Point Public School teaches local primary school children, and a new high school opened in 2025 for older students. These new schools were built specially for the growing number of families.
