About Strathfield

Strathfield is one of Sydney's most expensive and well-known suburbs, 12 kilometers from the city center. It has its own local council and sits around a major train station that connects many railway lines.
In 2021, 25,915 people lived here in a very mixed community where only 28% speak just English at home. Many residents come from China, Korea, and India, as well as traditional Australian families.

History of Strathfield

European settlers started moving here in the 1860s when the railway was built, bringing wealthy Sydney people to live here. Strathfield became its own council area in 1885 and attracted important business and political leaders.
Three Australian Prime Ministers chose to live in Strathfield - including some who needed good train connections to Melbourne and other places for their work. The area became known for attracting successful and important people.
