Rhodes is a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, about 12 kilometers from Sydney's city center. This unique suburb sits within the City of Canada Bay and has the river around most of it.
About 12,263 people live here in 2023, mostly in tall apartment buildings. The community is very diverse with 18.8% born in Australia, 38.2% from China, and 10.7% from South Korea.
Aboriginal people called the Wangal Clan lived here for over 15,000 years before European settlers got land grants in 1794. The suburb got its name from Thomas Walker's property called "Rhodes."
