North Ryde is a suburb located approximately 15 kilometers north-west of Sydney's Central Business District in the City of Ryde local government area. It is bordered by Macquarie Park to the north, West Ryde to the south, Eastwood and Marsfield to the west, and East Ryde to the east.
As of the 2021 Census, North Ryde had a population of approximately 14,000 residents, known for its proximity to major business parks and educational institutions.
The area was originally inhabited by Aboriginal peoples, with the broader region known as Wallumatta. European settlement began in the early 1800s as part of the Field of Mars land grants. North Ryde developed more gradually than Central Ryde, remaining largely rural until the mid-20th century.
The area experienced significant growth following the establishment of Macquarie University in the 1960s and the development of technology parks. Early industries included farming and later, light manufacturing and technology companies.
North Ryde offers several attractions, including Lane Cove National Park sections with bushwalking trails and native wildlife viewing opportunities. The area features ELS Hall Park with recreational facilities and sports grounds. The Macquarie Centre nearby provides major shopping and entertainment options.
Several technology and business parks showcase modern architecture and landscaping. The suburb offers easy access to both the Lane Cove River and various recreational facilities.
North Ryde is served by North Ryde Public School and benefits from proximity to Macquarie University, one of Australia's leading institutions. The area also provides access to excellent secondary schools throughout the Ryde region.
The suburb has been home to numerous academics, technology professionals, and business leaders, reflecting its connection to the university and major business parks.
