Marsfield is a suburb located approximately 16 kilometers north-west of Sydney's Central Business District in the City of Ryde local government area. It is bordered by North Ryde to the south, Eastwood to the west, Macquarie Park to the north, and West Ryde to the southeast.
As of the 2021 Census, Marsfield had a population of 12,492 residents, with a median age of 39 years.
The area now known as Marsfield was originally inhabited by Aboriginal people, with the broader region known by the Aboriginal name Wallumatta. European settlement began when Governor Arthur Phillip named the area "Field of Mars" in 1792, referring to the entire region between the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers.
The government resumed the Common in 1874 and subdivided the land into small farms, with the first land sales beginning in 1885.
