About Homebush

Homebush sits 12 kilometers west of Sydney's CBD within the Municipality of Strathfield. The suburb is split by railway, Parramatta Road, and M4 Motorway into distinct areas with different development patterns.
The 2021 Census recorded 11,660 residents, increasing from 7,007 in 2016. Demographics show 27.9% Australian-born, 19.7% from India, 12.6% from China, and 7.1% from South Korea.

History of Homebush

Aboriginal people originally called this area by its name Bigi Bigi, belonging to the Wangal clan. The name Homebush comes from D'Arcy Wentworth's "Home Bush" estate established in the early 1800s.
The Homebush railway station opened in 1855 as one of the first stops on the Sydney-Parramatta line. The 2000 Olympics brought major changes when the Homebush Abattoir and NSW Brickworks closed, making way for Olympic venues in nearby Sydney Olympic Park.
