Homebush West sits within the Municipality of Strathfield as part of the inner west region. The suburb was officially gazetted as "Homebush West" in 1992, previously being part of other local government areas.
The 2023 estimated population is 9,529 residents with a density of 6,107 persons per square kilometer. The community includes 21.9% Australian-born, 17.1% from India, and 17.1% from China.
