Dundas is a suburb located approximately 21 kilometers northwest of Sydney's Central Business District in New South Wales, Australia. It is situated in the City of Parramatta and the electoral division of Bennelong, with a 2021 Census population of 4,959 residents.
The area was originally known as "The Ponds" and was home to the first private land grants in Sydney made in 1791 to 14 former convicts and their families. Reverend Samuel Marsden selected 100 acres in the Field of Mars Parish and named his farm "Dundas Farm" in honour of Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville.
The Dundas Post Office opened on 1 March 1861, originally called Pennant Hills Post Office, changed to Field of Mars in 1867, and finally became Dundas Post Office in 1890. The name Dundas came from one of the "hundreds" in which the County of Cumberland was divided.
Dundas is renowned as a leafy green suburb, notably due to its centrepiece The Ponds Walk, which follows the scenic Ponds Subiaco Creek through the area. This natural walking trail provides residents and visitors with beautiful bushland scenery and recreational opportunities.
The suburb maintains its historical connection to "The Ponds" name, which is still reflected in The Ponds Creek.
Dundas is served by St Patrick's Marist College, a Catholic co-educational secondary school for Years 7-12, which holds the distinction of being the oldest school in Australia under the charge of teaching Brothers, originally established in 1872. The college moved to its current Dundas location in 1962.
Dundas Public School is located between Kissing Point Road and Calder Road, providing primary education for local families.
