About Concord

Concord is a beautiful, well-established suburb in Sydney's Inner West, just 10 kilometers from the city center. It's part of the City of Canada Bay and is famous for its big old houses and tree-lined streets.
In 2021, 14,551 people lived here, including many Italian families and people from other countries. Concord has been a nice place to live since the 1800s and still attracts families who want quality homes.

History of Concord

Concord got its name from a town in America to encourage peaceful living between soldiers and settlers. The first European families got land in the suburb in 1793, and the local council started in 1883.
Thomas Walker built a huge mansion called Yaralla in the 1860s, which later became a hospital. He also paid for another hospital to be built, designed by a famous architect in a beautiful old style.

Tourist Attractions in Concord

Concord Hospital is famous because the TV show "All Saints" films there, making it recognizable to many people. Queen Elizabeth Park and Majors Bay Reserve have great walking tracks along the water.
The old Yaralla mansion and its grounds show beautiful old architecture and history. Concord Oval hosts rugby and soccer games, while many parks like Henley Park give families places to play and relax.

Schools and Notable People in Concord

Concord Public School started in 1890 and still teaches local children, along with St Mary's Primary and Concord High School. The University of Sydney has a medical school at Concord Hospital.
Famous people from here include Neil Armfield (theater director), the inventor of the Victa lawn mower, and one of the original Wiggles members. Many important people have chosen to live in this nice suburb.
