Breakfast Point sits 16 kilometers west of Sydney's CBD within the City of Canada Bay. The suburb was gazetted in 1993, previously being part of Mortlake before separate recognition.

The suburb name comes from a geographical headland where Captain John Hunter had breakfast during his 5 February 1788 exploration of the Parramatta River. This represents the first contact between Europeans and the Wangal Clan.
