Floristry in the Radford family dates back to the 1920's with flower growing and seedling production in Oatley, NSW and the operation of a flower shop in the Haymarket in George Street, Sydney. The establishment of Ray's Florist & Gifts did not commence in Ashfield until November 1960 under the guidance of Helen Radford and her son Ray. Two years later, in 1962 the business gained Interflora membership. Because of his involvement with Interflora, Ray advanced to become a member of the district committee. During this time he met Carol, whom he Married in 1972. They were both experienced florists and were deeply involved with the early education of many country Interflora members. Later Ray became a national board member and subsequently president of Interflora Australia Unit Ltd in 1987.He was also involved with International judging and was a member of the Interflora International board. Quality and reliability was evidenced by the motto " --- There is a difference ---". On the retirement of the Radford family in 2001m the Falcone family took the reins and are sure to be a driving force in the production of bigger and better things for Rays Florist in the future. |
